Work Roller / Backup Roller for Cold Rolling Mill
Work roller
The work roll is a roller that directly contacts the rolled material (such as steel strip, stainless steel, aluminum foil, etc.) and is the "executor" of rolling deformation.
Function
· Direct transmission of deformation force: Apply pressure to metallic materials to cause plastic thinning and elongation.
· Determine surface quality: The surface finish (roughness) of the work roll is directly "copied" onto the surface of the rolled product, determining its gloss, texture and appearance grade.
· Influence on plate shape: The roll profile curve of the working roller (convex, concave or special curve) is one of the key means to control the transverse thickness distribution of the strip and the plate shape (such as waves, warping).
· Participate in process cooling and lubrication: In direct contact with rolling oil/emulsion, it affects the friction, heat dissipation and cleanliness during the rolling process.
Support roller
The support rolls are located at the back (above or below) of the work rolls and serve as the "backbone" of the rolling mill structure.
Function
· Provide rigid support: Withstand almost all the rolling force, prevent the work rolls from excessive deflection deformation due to huge pressure, and thus ensure the uniformity of the rolling transverse thickness.
· Transmitting bending moment and torque: In some rolling mill designs, support rolls also participate in driving.
· Enhance system rigidity: The rigidity of the support rolls themselves is the main component that constitutes the rigidity of the entire rolling mill.
