The Theory of Six Roll Rolling Mill

Six roll rolling mill adds a pair of middle roller that can move symmetrically and axially, eliminating the harmful contact between working roll and support roll. During milling, for different width of steel strips will use different movement amount of middle roll, change the contact pressure distribution (flattening value distribution) between rollers and bending force, so to control the plate shape and convexity.

    Product Introduction

The six-high reversing cold rolling mill is a high-precision metal rolling equipment, mainly used for multi-pass rolling of strip materials at room temperature to achieve thickness reduction, plate shape control and surface quality improvement.

    Core Structure & Design Feature

The core feature of this equipment lies in its six-high structure design and reversible rolling function. It consists of six rolls including work rolls, intermediate rolls and backup rolls, among which the intermediate rolls can move axially (oscillate), and the work rolls are equipped with hydraulic bending roll devices. This design can effectively adjust the pressure distribution between the rolls and improve the accuracy of plate shape control; the reversible rolling function allows the strip to be rolled back and forth in the mill, ensuring thickness uniformity.

    • High Precision
Rolling accuracy reaches ±0.02 mm; rolling speed 360–1000 m/min
    • Multi-Material Adaptability
Suitable for stainless steel, common steel, aluminum and copper
    • Wide Thickness Range
From 1.5–4.5 mm raw material down to 0.15–2.0 mm finished gauge
    • Automated Operation

    Frequently Asked Questions

QWhat is a six-high reversing cold rolling mill?
A six-high reversing cold rolling mill is a high-precision metal processing machine equipped with six rolls arranged in three pairs: working rolls, intermediate rolls, and backup rolls. Its reversing capability allows strip material to pass back and forth through the mill in multiple rolling passes, delivering precise thickness reduction, plate shape control, and superior surface quality at room temperature.
QWhat materials can the six-high cold rolling mill process?
The six-high cold rolling mill handles a wide range of metallic materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, low alloy steel, aluminum, and copper. It accepts raw material thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 4.5 mm and produces finished thin-gauge strip products down to 0.15 mm.
QWhat rolling accuracy and speed does this equipment offer?
The six-high reversing cold rolling mill achieves a rolling accuracy of ±0.02 mm, enabled by the Hydraulic AGC pressing system and Siemens PLC electric control. Rolling speeds typically range from 360 to 1000 m/min, with model-specific rated speeds of 800 m/min (Model 950) and 900 m/min (Models 1150 and 1380).
QWhat is the advantage of a six-roll structure over a conventional four-roll mill?
The six-roll configuration adds intermediate rolls between the working rolls and backup rolls. These intermediate rolls can shift axially to eliminate harmful direct contact between working and backup rolls, and allow precise adjustment of the inter-roll contact pressure distribution. The result is better plate shape control, reduced edge drop, improved strip flatness, and the ability to roll thinner gauges compared to a conventional four-roll mill.
QWhich industries typically use six-high cold rolling mills?
Six-high cold rolling mills serve multiple industries. They are widely applied in automotive manufacturing (body panels, structural components), home appliance production (enclosures, inner parts), the energy sector (transformer cores, silicon steel strips), and any metal processing field requiring high-precision, thin-gauge strip materials at high production efficiency.
QCan the technical parameters be customized for specific production requirements?
Yes. The three standard models (950, 1150, and 1380) are reference configurations covering the most common production needs. All design and manufacturing parameters — including roll dimensions, maximum rolling force, motor power, strip width range, rolling speed, and automation system — can be tailored to the customer's specific requirements and production conditions upon request.
